“Fashion is instant language.” So said famed designer Miuccia Prada, who knows a thing or two about style. Fashion is about more than just what you’re wearing, it’s about expressing who you are. For many, fashion is life, and at Laurel Springs School, we celebrate our students embracing this art form. Below are the stories of two talented students looking to break into the fashion industry.
Isabelle, a student passionate about fashion and education is pursuing her dreams of studying fashion with specialist research and collaborative work by attending the prestigious London College of Fashion, UAL. With more than 70 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and 165 short courses across every subject, UAL encourages students to examine the past and challenge the present. Isabelle embraces such a challenge with dedication and excitement on her new independent adventure.
Yelissah became a Laurel Springs student as a way to immerse herself in her passion for fashion and entrepreneurship. Yelissah has impressively launched her own business called Akyla, which is an online fashion shop for African designers to promote and sell clothing and accessories from Africa. Inspired by her origins and the creativity of female stylists who work with minimum equipment and tools to create amazing products, Yelissah has established a successful partnership with these artists and is continuing to evolve her website. In ten years, she envisions herself having earned a degree in marketing and plans to expand her business across the globe. While she is unsure of where she will be attending this fall, she has been accepted to Babson College, Emory University, Indiana University Bloomington, and Philadelphia University, to name a few.
