We are pleased to offer our first ever student blogging initiative which is designed to engage students from around the globe in sharing their stories and expressing themselves as active members of our community. Blogging is an activity that requires students to think about a larger audience and reflect on what their peers would like to know about their experiences. Students are encouraged to share their stories, passions, goals, and future career paths. We will be sharing posts from our student bloggers throughout the school year and encourage you to visit Laurel Springs School on social media for links to our students’ latest contributions.
2016-2017 School Year Student Bloggers are:
Hi, everyone! My name is Kate Florence Martin and I am the student editor for this blogging program. I am a lover of writing and language. I am a competitive tennis player training to achieve my dream of receiving a scholarship to a Division I college. I have a passion for nature, hiking, whitewater kayaking, and dream of spending my days surfing, and rock climbing. I am a vegan and love to cook and experiment with recipes as well. Academically, I am very interested in History and English. I am also fluent in Spanish and spend part of my summers in Madrid, Spain, my one true love. I hope that you all enjoy reading my posts.
Hello, my name is Connor. I’m 16 and a junior in high school. I live in the sunny state of California, and, more specifically, I reside in the SF Bay Area. I have loved music ever since I was little, and I play both the piano and the violin. I’ve been a huge fan of tech and science. I also enjoy sports and play basketball and, golf. As for writing, I have always been interested in blogging and also write poetry. In my free time, I like visiting new places and doing some photography.
Hi, my name is Colby, nickname “Cheez,” and I am a 15-year-old blogger from Naalehu, Hawaii (nah ah lay who). I spend much of my time messing around with my sisters, doing schoolwork, and reading books or playing games. My proudest accomplishments include flying an airplane, nearly achieving Eagle Scout, having read over 3,000 pages (or six 500 paged books) in a single week, and having traveled to over a dozen countries. I love to share stories about my life and my daily activities in my blogs.
When I was nine years old, I was given the opportunity to learn to fly; to meander around the clouds and glide through the sky. Ever since, aviation has been a passion that burns within me, waiting to be let free once I reach the financial, mental, and physical demands flight training requires. To share my passion, I founded the Community of Young Aspiring Aviators to inspire others with a similar sensation, foster a mindset of safety is the first priority, and open the eyes of others to the adventures this career and hobby provides.
I am a senior at Laurel Springs this year and I live near Dallas, Texas. I found my passion for writing when I was twelve and have worked on numerous literary projects since (including a co-authored preteen mystery novel, a poetry book, and multiple young adult fiction books, under a pen name). I am also a dancer and an amateur baker on the side but enjoy many creative outlets. I consider myself an “endless creative” and warmly welcome you to discover the many mysterious worlds that I write about.
Hello, my name is Ibadat and I have been a student at Laurel Springs School for five years. I am currently a sophomore. I play full-time tennis and in my free time, I enjoy reading (anything from books to the back of juice boxes), writing (especially poetry), binging on Gilmore Girl reruns, and eating pizza as often as I possibly can. My favorite book at the moment is Catcher in the Rye and I am currently trying to find my way through Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. My favorite subject is Literature (for obvious reasons) and I want to major in Creative Writing in college.
I am a young writer and I am currently a Laurel Springs sophomore. While this is only my second year at Laurel Springs I try to get into as many clubs as possible, so that I can be involved with the school. Even though this takes a ton of time, I am working hard to maintain straight A’s. I have the opportunity to travel a lot and Laurel Springs has helped me balance everything.
I am a sophomore with Laurel Springs and I live in California. I am in my second year in Laurel Springs. My many interests include writing and music. I enjoy writing in many genres, both fiction, and nonfiction. I’ve been published in a few literary journals and I plan to attend UCLA after high school.
