Laurel Springs School is proud to begin offering unlimited, on-demand instructional support service featuring 24/7 online access to students in areas including math, physics and chemistry. Students are able to access the program through an app via their tablets and mobile devices to complement their course work. This service is offered through our trusted partner Yup—which is backed by the Stanford StartX Fund at Stanford University—will have an exclusive iteration for Laurel Springs students in grades 3-8 for math support and 9-12 for math, physics, and chemistry.
According to Leigh Tillman, Mathematics Academic Department Chair: “ASK LSS provides students with immediate support in their math, chemistry, and physics courses by qualified experts; 24/7 access to instructional services is an incredible option to support a student in their learning process.”
Instructors available to students through ASK LSS are highly skilled in their respective areas of expertise. To exemplify the quality of support services, less than 4 percent of applicants are accepted to deliver instruction via Yup.
This program was selected because of the caliber of their support staff, as well as the program’s unique, four-step approach to teaching and learning. First, ASK LSS instructors seek to learn the student’s current level of knowledge and identify the foundation upon which the new skills will be built. From there, instructors offer step-by-step explanations and encouragement in using these newfound skills. The third step features “guiding questions” to check for comprehension. Guidance continues through the final stage, which is a collaboration between student and instructor, all with the goal of ensuring student retention of information. Instructors encourage students to develop a growth mindset and ensure mastery learning. This approach aligns with the research coming out of Stanford on best-practice teaching methods.
Upper School students can take advantage of this new service to further their comprehension in areas including chemistry, physics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. With ASK LSS, students will be able to access 1:1 support in these often challenging subjects. Additionally, students will have access to help with assignments and test preparation.
“Laurel Springs students are known for striving for, and achieving, excellence,” Tillman says. “ASK LSS is one more way that we, as a program, can support our students in this pursuit of excellence. By providing a service that offers immediate help, students will have access to the support they may need to feel more confident in a particular content area, regardless of their time zone or time of day. With the help of ASK LSS, our students can receive on-demand assistance with any questions they may have and continue to move through their math and science courses at their preferred pace.”
We are very glad to be able to offer this exciting new tool to our students.
