Advanced Placement Courses at Laurel Springs School
Advanced Placement courses can give high school students many advantages. More than 90% of U.S. colleges accept successful AP exam scores for college credit or advanced course assignments. Students who take two or more AP courses have a 76% chance of completing their Bachelor’s degree, in part because they become accustomed to college-level work while still in high school. Laurel Springs is proud to offer 19 AP courses in our catalog.
While Advanced Placement courses prepare students for the official AP exams administered through the College Board, these exams are not built into AP courses. If you or your child is taking an AP course, it is important to understand the exam registration process and timeline. Laurel Springs recommends the following steps for students taking AP courses:
- Call AP Services (609)-771-7300. Ask for the names and telephone numbers for AP coordinators in your local area.
- Contact your local AP coordinators, and tell them that you attend a distance learning school that does not administer AP exams. List all the AP exams you wish to take, and provide your school code (052256).
- Ask the AP coordinator for the location, date, and time to appear for the exams you wish to take, as well as the process for paying your exam fee (exam fees may vary by location).
Laurel Springs recommends that students complete this process by February 1, 2013 to be assured of exam arrangements prior to College Board deadlines. To read more about the benefits of AP courses, please visit our blog.
