The Key Steps in Planning for Your Next School Year with Laurel Springs
Throughout the school year, the members of Laurel Springs’ experienced School Counseling team dedicate themselves to supporting students’ academic progress and personal-social development. One unique benefit of the digital environment is that it allows students to build trust and develop meaningful one-on-one relationships with their assigned College Counselors using the online tools they are most comfortable with.
This month, Laurel Springs School’s Counseling Department is excited to meet with Upper School students and families to select courses for the next school year. During these sessions, you and your College Counselor will:
1. Verify that you’re on track to meet graduation requirements.
2. Review next year’s course selections and confirm course schedules.
3. Assess college and career goals in conjunction with your course selections.
4. Recommend the appropriate next steps in relation to your college goals and other pursuits.
In addition, your College Counselor will be able to take part in discussions about upcoming summer plans, like securing internships, volunteer opportunities, and what summer courses you can take to round out your academic transcripts. Counselors can also provide helpful resources pertaining to standardized test preparation, resume assistance, scholarship resources, and much more.
A Special Note to Rising Graduates
If you are entering your final year with Laurel Springs, be sure to communicate any confirmed plans as you move further along in the college planning and admissions processes. If you’re taking some vacation time before the start of your senior year, you may want to schedule visits to the colleges to which you’re interested in applying. Your College Counselor can provide valuable insights into what to expect during your time on campus, the questions you should ask admissions representatives and faculty, and how to evaluate the information gathered during your trip.
Students are encouraged to begin browsing through the Laurel Springs Program of Study, and please reach out to your College Counselor as soon as possible to set-up your course selection meeting.
