How we engage our students and families at Laurel Springs

Field Trips

Our field trips are full-day, extensive in-person events where students, their peers, staff, and their families visit museums, enjoy cultural events, and more. Generally, the cost for regional field trips may range from $80 to $120 per person which will cover all activities, necessary transportation during the field trip, and an event t-shirt for the memories. Students and their whole family are welcome to join!

Travel Learning

These are extended-stay trips designed for specific grade-level bands (grades 4-12) and planned in coordination with our travel partner, WorldStrides. Travel is one way we deliver important rites of passage that lead to personal growth. These signature events focus on the areas of service to the community, service to the environment, service to history and civics, and service to self-actualization and leadership.

Meet-Ups

Meet-ups are free partial-day, informal gatherings around the country that allow students to connect and have fun. Most meet-ups directly follow a regional field trip, so families can easily make these into two-day excursions. Meet-ups help students meet grade-level peers and make long-lasting friendships. If a meet-up is in your area (or you can get there), bring the whole family to enjoy some Laurel Springs camaraderie!

Year-End Celebration

At the end of each traditional academic school year, Laurel Springs hosts a formal ceremony for 8th - 12th graders. The event includes a virtual and in-person commencement ceremony for graduating seniors, 8-11 grade team building events and field trips, prom and an alumni brunch.

These momentous occasions are held over a 3-day period known as the Annual Year-End Celebrations, which features special events for our students and their families. Many students choose to travel from across the country and around the globe in order to attend.

Virtual Field Trips

We also offer virtual field trips for grades K-8 and 9-12. These virtual tours provide opportunities for students to experience places around the world. Students digitally engage in these events to learn about different cultures and history; it's both a social and learning opportunity.

Counseling Webinars

Throughout the year, the Counseling Department delivers a combination of live and recorded webinars for students in grades K-8 and 9-12 which align with a curriculum of topics pertaining to academic, personal, social, college and career realms. In the K-8 space, lessons include subjects such as coping skills, goal setting, career exploration, and transitioning to high school. At the 9-12 level, webinars complement our grade level seminar curriculum and cover a variety of topics including time management, stress management, academic planning, resume writing and interviewing, financial aid and scholarships, navigating college admissions testing, and a college application workshop series for seniors pursuing college admission. Additionally, hhigh school students have the opportunity to attend virtual college visits presented by admissions representatives from over 60 colleges and universities around the world.

Class Assemblies

Class Connection Assemblies are held virtually three times a year during September, February, and May, with cohorts of students divided by K-5, 6-8, and each High School grade levels individually, designated by graduation year.

A collaboration between LSS Student Engagement and the Counseling Department, the focus of Class Assemblies, in varying degrees, is to:

  • Offer pertinent information for each grade level
  • Promote collaboration, engagement, and a sense of belonging between students in the High School graduation classes and similar grade levels
  • Provide an opportunity for Student Ambassadors to lead and interact with LSS students
  • Create grade level Time Capsules for each graduating class to be opened and shared five years after graduation
