Ava wrote a letter to her teacher, Mrs. Beverly Mills thanking her for a great first year at Laurel Springs. Ava and her family were new to online education. “This was my first year in online education, and I was really nervous. I didn’t know what to expect or how it would go or more importantly if I would really learn a lot like I did at my old school. Mrs. Mills made my switch to online schooling really easy and fun. She is a really smart teacher and you can tell she really loves to teach kids.” We are so excited for Ava and proud of her academic and figure skating accomplishments in her first year at Laurel Springs School. We interviewed Ava’s mother, Maria, to learn about how Laurel Springs has helped her daughter focus on her education, allow her to pursue other interests and help their family spend more time together.
“When Ava is not focusing on school, and working with her teachers, her favorite extracurricular activity is figure skating. Ava dreams of being an Olympic Figure Skater when she grows up, and then a professional figure skater, coach and choreographer. Her favorite part about Laurel Springs is being able to work on her schoolwork wherever she wants, including which subjects she wants to tackle first.”
We learned that summer is Ava’s figure skating competition season, which means non-stop competitions and traveling, but the family still has the opportunity to go on a few weekend getaways.
Ava loves science, social studies, and geography. She loves doing science experiments, something that was not able to explore at her brick-and-mortar school. “We chose Laurel Springs because we needed a school that would accommodate her rigorous figure skating schedule.”
Ava’s mother can already see positive changes in her daughter since enrolling in Laurel Springs School. “I would say it’s great, especially for child athletes or children that aren’t able to physically attend traditional school for whatever reasons. Great course, very well put together program and Mrs. Beverly Mills is fantastic!”
Ava’s mother Maria shared the following advice for new families enrolling in Laurel Springs: “Plan out your week and look ahead at what’s due. Be organized and stay on schedule. It has been a very positive experience. She has become more independent. She is learning so much and she enjoys the flexibility of it all. She has been able to skate more and has improved drastically since going online.”
