Laurel Springs School Celebrates National School Counseling Week

1/31/20

National School Counseling Week
Celebrate National School Counseling Week 2020, “School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans!” From February 3–7, 2020, we focus our attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), this week-long event highlights the tremendous impact that school counselors can have in helping students achieve academic success and plan for a career.
Throughout the week, we will showcase how our counselors can be a meaningful resource for you and your child in order to achieve his or her specific academic and career goals!   Check out the schedule below for more details.

Monday: Show your enthusiasm for NSCW! Submit photos of you holding up the official Happy National School Counseling Week sign from the American School Counseling Association (click here to download). Your picture might even be highlighted on our social media channels! Please send all submissions to testimonials@laurelsprings.com by Wednesday, February 5.

Tuesday: As a part of this special week, the Counseling Department is very excited to announce the re-launch of the Upper School Seminar courses, which now includes Naviance as a part of the curriculum! Naviance is a comprehensive, college and career readiness platform that promotes self-discovery, career exploration, academic planning, and college preparation. Full-time Laurel Springs students will have access to this tool, which will enhance the college and career planning experience and help students to identify their strengths, skills, and abilities. Collaborating with a Laurel Springs College Counselor and working in Naviance will provide students with the resources needed to help them meet their college and career goals.

Wednesday: We invite all full-time students to learn about the re-designed grade level Seminar courses and the student experience in Naviance. Join School Counseling Manager, Ms. Polakowski, for a live demo and Q&A on Wednesday, February 5 at 3pm ET / 12pm PT. Check your email for a message from your College Counselor to join this interactive event, or email counseling@laurelsprings.com for more information.
Thursday: Explore interesting career options with our Counselors, as we learn about an array of careers in our live Find Your Drive Career Pathways Webinar. Full-time students in grades 8-12, check your email for an invitation from your Counselor with the link to participate in this fun, interactive event taking place at 3pm ET / 12pm PT!

Friday: Gear up for your next enrollment at Laurel Springs! On Friday, February 7, the Counseling Department will kick off course scheduling meetings with students and their families. Please be on the lookout for an invitation to sign up for a time to discuss and confirm your course schedule for the 2020-21 school year. In the meantime, check out Laurel Springs’ Program of Study to preview course options.

Parent Speaker Series: Denise Pope

Denise Pope
Additionally, on Wednesday, March 4, Laurel Springs will be welcoming author and lecturer, Denise Pope, to our Parent Speaker Series. Dr. Pope is the co-founder of Challenge Success, a research and intervention project that provides schools and families the tools they need to raise healthy, motivated students. She will be discussing practical strategies to help reduce unnecessary pressure around the college admissions process and ways to support your child's overall well-being and readiness for life in college and beyond.
Keep an eye out for more information, including an email invitation to this exciting conversation.
Laurel Springs School is committed to providing our families with the best counseling experience by building relationships to support our students' academic successes. We look forward to taking part in this annual event with our community during National School Counseling Week!
