Tomorrow Starts Today: April Scholarship Deadlines

May 1st is National Decision Day for college-bound high school students, so it’s time to think about your final decision about where you’re going to continue your education. If you’ve already been accepted into your school of choice, now is the perfect time to take the next step and plan on how you’re going to pay for all that knowledge. Below is a selection of scholarships that have deadlines approaching, so don’t hesitate to dive right into April’s rewarding scholarship opportunities.

Becca’s Closet Spirit of Generosity Scholarship

Award: $1,000 to $5,000 (multiple awards available)
Deadline: April 1, 2020
Description: Open to all graduating high school seniors attending an accredited college, university, or vocational school in the fall of 2020. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and have made an outstanding contribution to his or her local community through volunteer service.

Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes

Award: $10,000 (multiple awards available)
Deadline: April 15, 2020
Description: Open to students between the ages of 8 and 18 in the US and Canada, applicants must be currently working on an inspiring service project or have done so within the past 12 months.

April ScholarshipsPenguin-Random House Signet Essay Contest

Award: $1,000
Deadline: April 15, 2020
Description: Open to high school juniors and seniors, applicants must write an essay on one of five topics relating to this year’s competition book, Wuthering Heights. Essays must be submitted by a high school English teacher on behalf of the applicant. Please visit the sponsor’s website for a full list of essay topics.

GameAuthority Scholarship

Award: $1,000
Deadline: April 15, 2020
Description: Learning should be fun, and as many games have progressed in recent years, so have their use across many fields, including education. This scholarship is for students who have used gaming or simulation programs to advance their learning experience. Students can apply by submitting an essay (1200-1500 words) describing the impact gaming has had on their life.

American Society of Interior Design Scholarships

Award: $4,000 to $5,000 (multiple awards available)
Deadline Period: February 2020 to April 2020
Description: A number of annual scholarships and grant opportunities are available to those interested in expanding their education on how interior design impacts behavior, health, and well-being.

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Ocean Foundation’s Science Without Borders Challenge

Award: Up to $500
Deadline: April 20, 2020
Description: Open to students between the ages of 11 and 19, applicants must harness their artistic skills and creative vision to create a piece of art that illustrates this year’s theme, “Take Action: Conserve Coral Reefs”

Celebrate the West High School Art Competition

Award: $200 to $1,200 (multiple awards available)
Deadline: April 30, 2020
Description: Open to all high school students in the states listed below, applicants must submit a two-dimensional work of art inspired by the state they reside in. Students from Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming may apply.

National Hazing Prevention Poster Design Contest

Award: $100 to $250 (multiple awards available)
Deadline: April 30, 2020
Description: National Hazing Week is an opportunity for campuses, schools, and organizations to come together and talk about hazing in their communities. HazingPrevention.org empowers students to prevent hazing on their campuses. The competition is open to all college students and college organizations/clubs. To apply, students must design a unique poster that highlights the importance of hazing prevention.

Teachers Make Teachers Scholarship

Award: $1,000
Deadline: April 30, 2020
Description: Not only do great teachers teach, they inspire. It’s often what leads to even more aspiring teachers—and the cycle continues. This scholarship was created to help nurture that drive. Students must submit an essay (at least 300 words) about the teacher and/or event that inspired them to seek a degree in teaching.

Milton Fisher Scholarship for Innovation and Creativity

Award: $5,000 annual scholarship
Deadline: May 1, 2020
Description: Open to all high school juniors and seniors from Connecticut or the New York City metro area, or students who intend on attending college in either Connecticut or New York City. Applicants must describe how they’ve solved an artistic, scientific, or technical problem in a new or unusual way OR describe how they’ve engineered a distinctive solution to a problem faced by their school, community, or family.
