Celebrating National School Choice Week
LSS In the News
Laurel Springs is excited to spotlight the 15th anniversary of National School Choice Week, running from January 25th until January 31st.

Ever since Laurel Springs School opened its virtual doors in 1991, the idea that every student is deserving of a personalized and quality education has been at the core of everything we do. Our founder, Marilyn Mosley Gordanier, holds strong to the belief that every student benefits from an individualized educational process, and we recognize that every child may need different learning approaches to help enable them to pursue their dreams.
At Laurel Springs, we champion the belief that learning environments should be built to fit the student, not the other way around. We are proud of the thousands of students and parents who have decided to take control of their education and choose Laurel Springs as they grow and learn while making their dreams come true.
While some children can thrive in a traditional schooling environment, others need a more unique approach to education, and being able to choose the right school can empower students to become the best version of themselves.
This week, we’re celebrating National School Choice Week. It started in 2011, and for the past 15 years they’ve been providing visibility to opportunities available in the K-12 education space. From online private schools like Laurel Springs to traditional public, public charter, public magnet, home, and nontraditional learning environments, they have been equipping parents and students to make the best choice for their education.
For students like alumnus Eric Cheon (Class of 2025), Laurel Springs offered versatility he wasn’t able to find in traditional public schools.
“I chose Laurel Springs School because of its flexibility, which allowed me to plan my studies as I wanted,” he shared. “Online courses taught me how to manage time and be resourceful. This individualized education strategy helps me thrive academically while engaging in other activities and learning important life skills.”
As we continue to provide flexible education to students like Eric, we are excited to be able to maintain our status as a private, accredited, and online institution, all while continuing to be a resource for students and parents looking for alternatives to traditional school.
