The odds of making it to the Summer Olympics are slim, considering the 8 billion people around the world. Yet, a handful of Laurel Springs’ alumni have qualified for the summer events in Paris this year!

We are beaming with pride as Laurel Springs’ Levi Jung Ruivivar, Tyler Downs, Ruby Remati and others get ready to showcase their talents on the world stage. Join us in rooting them on as they compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris!

    Levi Jung Ruivivar: Artistic Gymnastics

Laurel Springs' Class of 2024 Levi Jung Ruivivar has loved gymnastics since she was a toddler and is a standout competitor today. This will be her first time competing in the Olympics, representing the Philippines in national competition after 4 years of successfully representing the USA National Team:

"I am ecstatic about qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics for artistic gymnastics. This has been my most ambitious dream since I was little and the fact that I have fulfilled it leaves me with an overwhelming sense of awe.”

Levi is particularly thrilled about representing the Philippines and connecting with a global community of athletes:

"I am most excited about representing the Philippines and that part of my heritage and culture. I have connected with the Filipino community so much over my Olympic journey and I feel honored to be able to proudly represent the country and the people at this incredible sporting event."

Watch Levi in her events on July 28th! You can also follow her journey on social media, and catch her on Stanford’s Gymnastics Team this fall!

    Tyler Downs: Men's Diving

Laurel Springs' Class of 2021 Alum and current member of the Men’s Swimming & Diving at Purdue, Tyler Downs, is approaching the Olympic games for the second time this summer and will represent Team USA. Tyler previously competed in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics (held in 2021 due to COVID-19). This year, he’s going for gold in the 3-meter Springboard event.

Watch Tyler on August 5th and 7th! You can also follow along with him on social media here.

    Ruby Remati: Artistic Swimming

Class of 2021 Ruby Remati is representing Team USA in the Artistic Swimming event this year. After recently competing at the Artistic Swimming World Championships in Chile, Qatar, Paris and Toronto, Ruby is entering the Olympics this summer with 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal under her belt.

“Last week I made my first OLYMPIC TEAM!” she shared on her Instagram. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity to represent TeamUSA in Paris and for such an amazing team, coaches and staff. After many years of cold pools, we did it! :)”

You sure did, Ruby! Catch her in the Artistic Swimming events on August 5th, 6th, and 9th! Follow her on social media here, too!

How Online Private Education at Laurel Springs Made a Difference

You can’t train 30+ hours a week and expect to keep up in the traditional school setting. For student-athletes like Levi, Ruby, and Tyler, the flexibility and support provided by Laurel Springs School were crucial for reaching their Olympic dreams!

“I feel that Laurel Springs helped me grow as an individual and student in ways I wouldn’t have been able to at an in-person school,” says Levi. “I have learned skills in time management, self-motivation, problem-solving, and communication. The flexible schedule and helpful teachers have allowed me to train 34 hours a week and travel to different countries to compete. Additionally, the rigorous classes have allowed me to prepare for my upcoming year at Stanford University.”

Ruby chimed in, too: “My training schedule was 6.00am - 5.00pm, 6 days a week, and being online with Laurel Springs helped me on so many levels. I really enjoyed the teaching style and learned so much through the excellent faculty.”

Tyler and his family also shared how valuable the flexibility and academic options were at Laurel Springs. “I’m really glad we chose Laurel Springs School,” shared Tyler’s mom. “He received an excellent education while pursuing what he truly loves.”

For these Olympic-bound athletes, the personalized learning and self-paced online curriculum at Laurel Springs made all the difference, making sure they could thrive both in the classroom and in their sport!
