Senior year is full of milestones and celebrations! Now that you’ve submitted your college applications or committed to a gap year, it’s time to prepare for your second semester of senior year.
What to do your second semester of senior year
The senioritis may be creeping in, but there’s still lots left to do during your last semester. Get ready for the next few months before you celebrate and head off to your next endeavors.
Prepare for another great semester
You wrapped up your first semester of senior year! Congratulations. Colleges expect to see your first semester grades by early February. So, update your grades when you get them—it could be the extra information colleges need to determine your admissions outcome.
Apply for scholarships and complete the FAFSA
While submitting college applications may be over, you still need to apply for the FAFSA and finish up any scholarship applications. The FAFSA closes in late March or early April. Everyone should complete the FAFSA as it provides important information that may make you eligible for scholarships and grants offered by your state or school. You can use tools like Fastweb, Cappex, or, if you’re a Laurel Springs School student, the Scholarship Search Engine in Naviance, to find a few scholarships that fit you.
Beware of senioritis
You may just want to sit back and relax the rest of your senior year, but now is not the time to catch senioritis. As you await college decisions, keep up the excellent work. Your second-semester grades matter just as much as the first. Complete your schoolwork and study for any exams you have while you wait for college acceptance letters.
Celebrate your results
Your admissions letters are finally here. The latest you can expect to see an acceptance letter is the first week of April. Once you find your admissions decisions, share your big news with your educators. Counselors can help you pivot if the outcome isn’t what you anticipated, and they’re also there to celebrate and support your accomplishments. If you are trying to narrow down your choices, take a college tour. Remember, you have until College Decision Day, May 1st, to make your decision and deposit to the college of your choice.
Plan for year-end festivities
The end of the school year is almost here. It’s time to get ready for prom, graduation, and grad night. Celebrate your senior year with friends and your peers during these fun festivities.
Be sure to schedule and take your senior photos ASAP—you’ll want those for your graduation announcements.
Laurel Springs seniors are invited to attend our annual Year-End Celebrations including our commencement ceremony, prom, and events just for grads. Keep an eye on your inbox for details on how to RSVP.
Create a plan
Prepare for your college transition by attending your freshman orientation, filling out your housing application (or planning your commute), and creating a checklist of everything you’ll need for your first semester.
Taking a gap year? It’s important to keep honing your skills for your future career and college plans. Check out Laurel Springs’ gap year program where students can take a virtual internship, earn college credits, and take advanced courses.
