A Portrait of Each Child
There are five different learning modalities that come together to create a dynamic portrait of each child. Knowing a student’s learning style is even more important in a distance learning environment. This knowledge helps to inform choice of curriculum, mode of curriculum delivery, and provides valuable information to our teachers and staff regarding instructional preferences. Understanding individual learning styles allows us to take a holistic approach, based on each child’s unique pace of development and strengths.
Based on the belief that each style of learning is valid, unique, and important, our learning styles model includes auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners but expands to consider how children think, what motivates them to learn, their interests, talents, and even the environment in which they learn best.
Learning Styles Profile
Laurel Springs assesses five aspects of learning styles: disposition, modality, interests, talents and preferred environment. The profile helps parents better understand their child’s blueprint for learning and offers helpful study tips and techniques. By understanding their child’s learning style, parents can help their children excel not only in school, but in life.
Application of Learning Styles
A child’s self-esteem grows when they participate in a learning process that affirms their interests and talents. Together with the student’s learning team, teachers leverage each student’s unique learning style to motivate and cultivate a love of learning.
Assessing the way a student learns and personalizing their educational experience with tailored academic plans designed to support their natural learning abilities helps our teachers to meet their students’ needs.
