What is the IMPACT program at Laurel Springs Online Middle School?

The move to middle school is a turning point in a student’s academic life. For the first time, students work across multiple subject-area teachers, manage several classes at once, and are asked to build the kind of organizational systems and self-directed habits that elementary school does not require.

IMPACT is designed for online middle school students who benefit from an additional layer of individualized academic or organizational support, beyond what is already built into full-time enrollment. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, IMPACT meets each student where they are as they build the study habits, time management, and self-advocacy skills that will carry them into high school.

What level of support do students receive in the IMPACT program?

Full-time tuition at Laurel Springs online middle school already includes evaluation and assessment of academic needs, accommodation plans where required, and individualized support from teachers and counselors.

IMPACT adds three increasing tiers of weekly 1:1 support from a dedicated Learning Support Specialist. For a middle school student, this often means helping build a schoolwork routine, learning to track assignments across several teachers, and practicing the organizational skills that make the jump from elementary school or to high school feel more manageable. Support includes:

• Creating a Learning Support Plan
• Setting SMART Goal(s) to track progress
• Monthly progress monitoring checks on SMART goal(s)
• Mathematics, English and Executive Functioning Support

Who is eligible for the IMPACT program?

IMPACT is open to online middle school students in grades 6 through 8 who are enrolled full-time at Laurel Springs and identified by our Student Support team as likely to benefit from support beyond what the core program provides.
